Aging, abortion, normal birth and various gynecological interventions are the most common causes of vaginal enlargement. On the other hand, especially difficult normal birth processes can cause tears in the muscle and connective tissue inside the vagina, resulting in permanent enlargement of the vagina.

What is vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty is a genital aesthetic procedure applied for the purpose of recovery, compression and narrowing of the vagina in cases such as enlargement, relaxation and decreased flexibility in the vaginal tissues for various reasons. Vaginoplasty is usually performed within 30 to 40 minutes under general anesthesia. In order to restore the elasticity and firmness of the vaginal tissue, which has been enlarged and damaged for various reasons, the deformed tissues are removed, and the surrounding muscles and tissues are tightened.

If vaginoplasty is performed for the purpose of eliminating postpartum injuries, the loose tissue in the whole or part of the vagina is fixed with sutures after the excess skin is removed, and it is aimed to reduce the vaginal opening.

In cases where vaginoplasty is applied to eliminate congenital defects, a functional vagina is created and abnormal structures and excess tissues are removed. Then, procedures are carried out to prevent the accumulation of blood during menstruation.

When vaginoplasty surgery is performed as a part of sex reassignment surgery, after removing the male external genitalia, the vaginal canal and labia are created from the penis and scrotum skin.

Considerations After Vaginoplasty

In the first few days after vaginoplasty, patients usually return to their daily routines. During this period, bleeding in the form of aches and mild aches may occur. These pains can be controlled with simple painkillers prescribed by the doctor. During the recovery period, medications should be used regularly, and personal hygiene and toilet cleaning should be taken care of.

Since self-dissolving sutures are used in vaginoplasty surgery, sutures do not need to be removed. Since the incision is made in the area inside the vagina, there is no visible scar from the outside.

It is necessary to avoid swimming in the sea and pool for 4 to 6 weeks following the operation, and to stay away from environments such as saunas and Turkish baths. Again, sexual intercourse should be avoided during this period.
